Long week...fun weekend!

This has been a long week...so far this semester school is crazy and it seems like it is so much busier than last semester. I think it's the combination of classes, almost all of which assign mass amounts of homework.

Anyway, this week is over (although I have a ton of homework to do this weekend....) and I'm really looking forward to our Show and Go this weekend!
Tomorrow we're going to the Winston Salem Dog Training Club to our first real practice trial :-)
I think we'll do okay. We've been practicing at the dog park; which has been really good to keep Pogo's attention while lots of other things are going on and with lots of other smells around.

In other news, the ball has been found! Oh happy day and one happy dog!

This grimy mini tennis ball has been missing since before Christmas. Making it very difficult to play fetch because no other tennis ball will do, even if it's identical to the lost one! I was at home last weekend and Pogo was digging around under the bed near the headboard. It was clear he thought something was there but I didn't see anything. He kept coming back to me and whining and clearly trying to tell me that something was there. Finally I poked around and realized that there is a gap between the wall and the headboard because the bed is pushed all the way up to the baseboard at the floor. Somehow his ball had ended up wedged between the wall and the headboard....well, he found it!

Wish us luck tomorrow, hopefully all will go well and I won't be too nervous!!

Make a difference Monday

So I didn't actually watch the entirety of the super bowl. I saw kickoff, some commercials, and I know who won; so I think it still counts.
I was listening to the radio today and I heard about Tiquan Underwood. A player for the Patriots who was cut from the team literally just hours before kick off. He was so positive about it!
-
“Im Fine, This Will Only Make Me Stronger…Tough Times Never Last But Tough Ppl Do,” tweeted former New England Patriots player, Tiquan Underwood after being cut on the eve of the Super Bowl.
-
I love that. Tough times never last, but tough people do.
One of my favorite quotes to end the day:

"I know God won't give me anything I can't handle, I just wish he didn't trust me so much."

Rally-O!

After looking through the calendar for the NC State Fairgrounds, I decided to get Pogo ready to enter into a novice Rally-O trial at the end of March. If you want to learn more about Rally Obedience, check out this site: AKC Rally Obedience

Pogo knows most of these moves/commands already, but I need to work with him on staying in heel position when sitting and laying down. Since he's so little and he likes to keep eye contact he tends to swing himself out so he's facing my side instead of us being side by side. To help this I've been walking along a lot of walls, fences, curbs, ditches, etc so that he has no choice but to sit straight. Otherwise he's doing really well and has already learned to "come around". It's called a finish right and it means that when he's directly in front of me he has to circle around behind me and end by sitting in heel position on my left side.

If you see a red haired girl and little black and white dog at the fairgrounds that's probably us practicing! It's my favorite place to go because I can let him off leash without worrying about getting in trouble (At least I haven't yet) and because there's usually enough activity there that it's a sufficient distraction for Pogo to learn to work through.

Hopefully the video below will work and you can see what a novice rally course looks like :-)

In other news....my sister and her boyfriend, Bryan, got a 7 week old Golden Doodle Puppy last weekend! She is adorable and her name is Raley, named after Raley Hall on the App State campus.

Since she's so young they're having to take her out to potty every two hours at night....hmmm now what does that sound like? :-)

Britt and Bryan are coming "home" to Cary this weekend so I'll get to meet the little lady and hopefully have some pics of Pogo showing her who is boss!*

*Pogo is a people dog, not a dog's dog and gets very offended when other dogs try to play with him and treat him like a dog.
